Part II of the Fun at the SA Scrapbook Convention

Okey dokey, now that gal-pals Ilzaaay & Val are finally sitting down and enjoying Tim Holtz and Jayme Shephard, I can unabashedly post my project pics!

So, to recap - we started the day with JAYME SHEPARD, with whom we made the funnest small album, utilising leftover packaging that our brads had come in.

This is the *incomplete* front cover (taken with wobbly hand - so excuse that...)

Inside the tag book we see the staggered lengths of the pages - making it easy flip through and highlight special pictures.

And here, on closer inspection, we see that my trembling hand and confusion with inches and centimetres had me paste my papers the wrong way round...

Then it was on to GRUNGED MEMOIRS with TIM HOLTZ.

This was our Kit Bag.... GOOD GRIEF - there was TONS of stuff in there - waaaaaay more than we would be using - so thanks to TIM HOLTZ and RANGER for their wonderful generosity!

Here I am, engloved (I always start out with gloves and usually give up using them pretty quickly...), tearing my paper to my grungeboard album size.

And here are friends Amanda HRH, Lanie and Ronita hard at work, sanding the edges of the grungeboard albums.

There were some wonderful lucky draw prizes given away during the day, and I was lucky enough to be a winner! Here I am with Glenda, convener of the convention, with the prize of adhesives that I won from PURPLE TURTLE.

The man himself TIM HOLTZ, extolling the virtues of "don't think, just create"...

Michelle hard at work punching holes for her cover embellishments.

And my finished GRUNGED MEMOIRS Album...

And to top it all, we had our albums signed by TIM HOLTZ and here's the proof that we had fun with TIM!

Michelle, TIM, myself and Ronita - happy little GRUNGERS!

Now to play and create and enjoy!

Fun at the SA Scrapbook Convention!

The 2009 SA Scrapbook Convention started in Cape Town this year, a nice change for us Capetonians, who usually get to enjoy these conventions as the poor cousin to be visited last...

WOW - what a FUN and FANTASTIC day it was! Well done to the SA Scrapbook Convention team and all their helpers - I can't imagine at what ungodly hour their day must have started.

This is how (early) my day started...

The I was off to meet Michelle at 06h45 and drive through to Spier in Stellenbosch, where the convention was being held.

On arrival we found a mad flurry of delegates already registered and shopping up a storm. Not bad going for 07h35 on a cold and wintery Saturday morning...

Some tea/coffee to help us open our eyes and then the doors opened and in we trouped. In inimitable Amanda HRH style, she purloined a "front-row-table" for all of us and we set ourselves up with our cutting mats and tote's with tape/scissors/stuff...

L-R - Michelle, me, Amanda HRH, Lanie, Ronita - all ready to cut and stick and play and be entertained.

Our first workshop was with JAYME SHEPHARD of Making Memories - the cutest bundle of fun to start the day.

For this project we re-used packaging - helping us to eliminate un-necessary wastage. And what a great idea - I'll be looking at packaging in a whole new light!

Okay now you're wondering about the funky project aren't you? ...LOL...

I'm trying to keep the projects a surprise for my gal-pals who will be attending the conventions in Johannesburg and Durban. But, if you're desperate to see what we did then just email me directly and I'll send you some pics.

We had a moment of confusion when Jayme called out our first measurements IN INCHES... I piped up - "ummm, we use Metric..." and then the challenge of getting inches/cm converted began. Some of our cutting and trimming was a bit off - but we learnt the premise of the project and now we can perfect it!

Off to tea after some hair-raising moments - yes it can happen while scrapping - and then back to start our Journey... with TIM HOLTZ

Here he is presenting his workshop - and you'll notice that I've blurred the image here as well, again to keep the surprise happening for my gal-pals.

And now it's bedtime - after the witching hour and there's work to be done tomorrow - no more lollylagging about - well, till the next public holiday...

Cu on the next post where I'll have more on the TIM HOLTZ workshop.

SA Scrapbook Convention

Now we know I'm not a scrapper, and although I love scrapbook paper and the fabulous goodies the scrappers use for embellishments, you may well ask yourself "What is she doing up at this dark and witching hour of the morning?".

Well I'll tell you...

I'm off to ...

But right now it's time to follow the standard ablution regime so one looks/feels/is pretty (and pretty smelling) while milling about with 150 other conventioneers.

See y'all later!

Blockheads Stamps

How about these fabulous Blockheads Stamps!

I recently entered a competition on the Blockheads Stamps Facebook group and although I didn't win, I was wonderfully complimented by Stacey Dunning (owner of Blockheads Stamps) when she said my cards were "especially beautiful"!

She liked my cards so much she asked me to choose a set of their stamps to create some cards for their group! Could I be MORE excited if I had won? Nope, not a chance.

I had such difficulty choosing between two sets on my short-list that the wonderful Ms Dunning sent me BOTH! Thank you so much! Now to get creative...

I really was torn between these two sets:

ARCHITECTURE

TRAVEL

I know my next Blockheads Stamps sheets will have to be the ATTIC & SEWING sheets - they are just fabulous as well!

SEWING

ATTIC

And, as though receiving such a compliment, and gift, were not enough, I also received a consolation prize of my choice of a Cuttlebug Embossing Folder, as did all the entrants in the competition!

Generous folk out there in New Mexico!

Winged things...

I've defintely been in a "winged" mood of late - using butterflies and wings to give flight to my cards.

In trying for a masculine theme I created this "Vesuvian Man with Wings" card.

Background paper is lovely travel scrapbook paper, stamped and layered with brown CS using the Swiss Dots embossing folder. The Vesuvian man is cut away from his circular trappings and layered onto his new wings. (Small blunder there where the glue just got out of hand!). Two snippets of ribbon to add to the flow, adhered with staples. All very manly ;)

Stamps are Hero Arts, Flights of Fancy, Stamper's Anonymous.

Now I'm off to be an Evil Witch at a fancy dress party - have fun yourselves!

Some Valentine's Cards

All of the cards are "quick" cards - mostly using scrapbooking paper and large embellishments. I made them for a virtual swap on the StampSA group.

I was going for a circle under the heart embellishment but my *&%$# circle cutter managed to ruin two pieces of paper so I decided a square would be more suitable... I edged the inner square with Silver Stickles. DP is edged with Brilliance Poppy Red ink.

Now calm yourselves down - yes, it's stamped! Stamps are Stampin' Up! for the XOXO and flourishes are Inkadinkado

Another stamped card!

For this card I masked areas as I stamped and then just used one lovely heart to inform one of the card's intention... Stamp is Hero Arts.

For this card I used scrapbook paper, highlighted with stickles and stick on heart embellishment - ribbon to finish it off.

GASP! I just realised - no cuttlebugs were used in the making of these cards!

Hope they "get you in the mood"!

It's YG's Birthday! With a little Mojo #73!

Yes, it's that day again, when he doesn't want to know and I want to spoil (more than usual).

Today he had to wait for his card as I wanted to combine it with the Mojo Monday sketch, and being the good lad that he is he doesn't complain that he can only get his card after MM have done their thing!

So, here it is.

YG loves b/w so I combined that with his love of lingerie...

CS is Keyes Reindeer Jet Black, Curious Metal White, corset stamp is TBA, bar code stamp is "Stamped & Coded" from Autumn Leaves.

Now we're off to celebrate his birthday in that most traditional of styles - the birthday dinner - which is Sushi of course!

Birthday balloons to you all!
